When Editor Julius Schwartz decided the time maybe right to re-introduce the super-hero genre, he turned to writer's John Broome and Robert Kanigher and artists Carmine Infantino and Joe Kubert to revive the Flash! In place of Jay Garrick of Keystone City, we are introduced in this issue to pedestrian police scientist Barry Allen of Central City.

Once the sales figures for this issue came in (and they took 2 or 3 months in those days) a follow up issue was commissioned (Showcase#8) and then consecutive issues #13 & #14 before the Flash title was revived with the number #105, continuing the numbering of the old Jay Garrick series.
